Goals check for the week of June 24

By Katharine Swan On Monday, July 01, 2013 At 4:13 PM

Today is not only the first day of the week, but also the first day of the July session of Camp NaNoWriMo, which I will be using to keep my revisions going throughout the month.  Last week was only moderately productive, but I am hoping that with the pressure of Camp NaNo, the next month will be more productive -- especially next week, when I am taking a "staycation" with the intention of spending almost the entire week on writing and some admin tasks (tracking work expenses and such) that I've been putting off.

1. Novels: Like I said, last week was only moderately productive.  I worked on my novel Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday; I actually had a free day on Saturday, and spent six whole hours working on research and revisions, but with little to show for it.  When I was marking revisions I was focusing on the writing and not really doing much about the research, just marking where I needed to double check something or do additional research.  The end result is that I have a lot to check up on now, especially in the beginning of the novel where I am establishing the setting, the characters, and other details that figure into the rest of the novel.  So I guess if you consider the amount of time I've spent on it, I actually did have a productive week, but since I only got 7 pages into the manuscript, I have a hard time thinking of it that way.

2. Blogs and websites: No progress here (and none likely until after July, unless I have a chance next week during my staycation).

3. Other writing projects: Same as above.

4. Books: I'm still reading 1920s-themed books, so I guess Les Miz (and the rest of my list) is on hold for now.  I'll get back to it soon, hopefully.  Too bad I didn't think ahead and put 1920s novels on my list instead...

5. Horses: I had a very busy week with work and other responsibilities, so the horses were somewhat ignored.  My trainer was out on Tuesday and we worked with Rondo, and I squeezed in a brief bareback ride on Panama afterward.  Then I didn't get out to the barn again until Saturday, when I rode Panama briefly bareback again, and Sunday, when V. and I rode together -- her on Panama initially and me on Rondo, but then we swapped horses for a little bit.

Not a bad week, in retrospect, although at the time it felt dismal; I guess I was able to finish strong, though, which makes quite a difference.  I am expecting good things out of the next few weeks, in any case!
