Down time

By Katharine Swan On Tuesday, November 27, 2018 At 8:58 PM

I guess you can probably tell by the mood of my last post -- which I actually wrote Friday and scheduled to run on Saturday -- that I was getting overwhelmed and burning out a little.  The burnout actually culminated on Saturday, and after I got done babysitting that morning, I actually went home and took the rest of the day off.  I read, napped, watched TV, and worked a little on my dolls.  It was a lovely break.

I had intended just to nap and then have a productive later afternoon and evening, but after reading and napping I just couldn't get my engines started again.  I often have trouble with breaks for that reason -- it's always hard to get back to work again afterward -- but I think this time, I just really needed the break.

I ended up having a reasonably productive Sunday (for a Sunday) and a pretty productive Monday (one of my "home days" when I don't have to pick up the nanny kids from school).  I felt more energized and motivated than I had just a few days prior, so all in all I think the break on Saturday was a good thing.

Now I just have to get through a few more days of NaNoWriMo and the TGIO (Thank Goodness It's Over) party on Saturday, and then I'll be able to relax and enjoy having a little more time to myself the first few weeks of December.  I'm hoping to be able to keep up my blogging habit during the non-NaNo months, of course, but I will no longer be locked into scheduled write-ins (not to mention the corresponding commutes).

Of course I still need to give my schedule and workload and career path some thought, but maybe what I need to do most of all is just make sure that I have the occasional break, like I had on Saturday.
